What frightens Kugayama Shiori is a ghost who keeps killing herself, hanging, falling, again and again, yet her soul will not leave this world, and she remembers nothing but her name. You are the only living person who can talk to her, and the search for how she really died leads through Japanese urban legends like Kashima Reiko, bloody photographs and a buried incident, with comedy between the scares.

Content: suicide (depicted repeatedly), blood (a filter can recolour it), violence, frightening imagery.

A mystery visual novel where Japanese ghost stories meet occult comedy. Ghost girl Kugayama Shiori dies over and over but cannot pass on, and you, the one living person who can hear her, help her search for her lost memories and the truth behind her death, with multiple endings.

About Kugayama Shiori's Death Diary

Kugayama Shiori's Death Diary is a visual novel by the Japanese developer Laplacian, released on Steam in April 2026 in English, Japanese and Chinese. The store estimates about ten hours to play.

Shiori is a ghost with no memories except her name. Even in death she keeps taking her own life, trying one way after another in case it will be her last, but her soul refuses to leave. You are the only living person who can speak to her, and together you set out to learn who she was, why she died and what attachment holds her here.

You read the story and make choices that steer it. Along the way you meet other ghosts drawn from Japanese urban legends, collect entries for an Urban Legend Encyclopedia and record Shiori's deaths in her diary. The tone swings between frightening imagery, bloody scenes and sad memories, and an offbeat occult comedy; the store warns of violence, frightening imagery and depictions of suicide, and offers a filter that recolours the blood.

Players praise its twists, voice acting and an ending many found moving. It suits readers of ghost-story mysteries like Spirit Hunter and PARANORMASIGHT who do not mind dark humour around a heavy subject.
