Burnover Dinner is the first game by the solo developer ZeeN, made in under a month with RPG Maker MZ for the Spooktober Visual Novel Jam 2025. It downloads free for Windows and Mac from itch.io, in English or Korean, and the maker says no generative AI was used.

For Thanksgiving the whole family has gathered under one roof. Beyond the closed door are greetings and laughter, the smell of good food, and faces Jae-ik has not seen in years. He is the firstborn, and he is supposed to be setting an example. How long, someone asks, is he going to keep living like this?

You turn between drawn views of the house with the arrow keys, click on objects that glow, and talk to relatives, in more than 120 hand-drawn scenes. There is little or no music, which players say makes the silence at the table harder to bear. As the dinner goes on, the pressure, comparisons and stares build to one of two endings, each about 50 minutes to an hour away.

The maker calls it a short psychological horror visual novel and warns of domestic dispute, blood, injuries and disturbing imagery and audio. Players on itch.io rate it 5.0 out of 5 and describe the dread of the family gathering, the dead-eyed stares and endings that hit hard. It suits players who like horror built from ordinary life rather than monsters.

How to play Burnover Dinner

1. Download the game free for Windows or Mac from its itch.io page and run it.
2. Choose English or Korean.
3. Turn around each room with the arrow keys or A and D.
4. Left click objects that glow to look at them, and press Space or click to talk.
5. Get through the dinner to one of the two endings, then play again for the other.

Tips

• Read the trigger warning at the start before you go on.
• Check every glowing object; small details add to the story.
• The silence is deliberate; there is little music.
