About PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse

PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse is a horror mystery visual novel published by Square Enix and developed by Xeen, released on 19 February 2026 for PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. It is a standalone sequel to PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, with a new setting, new legends and a new cast, and critics say it is easy to start without having played the first.

The story is set in Ise-Shima in Japan, a region rich in mermaid legends. Yuza Minakuchi is a young pearl diver on the remote island of Kameshima who spends his days diving with his best friend Azami. After a bewildering encounter with another version of himself on the ocean floor, a series of curses begins to befall the island. A girl of unknown origin, a treasure hunter from abroad and a housewife looking into a drowning are drawn in, and their paths cross around the secret of the Mermaids of Ise.

You play as several characters in turn, examining 360-degree backgrounds based on real places in Mie prefecture for clues, talking to people and piecing the case together, with a diving mini-game among its new systems. A masked Storyteller introduces the tale.

The store warns of violence and bloodshed in the encounters with the curses. Critics found it tones the horror down a little compared with the first game in exchange for more puzzle-solving, and reviewers put it at about 10 to 15 hours. It suits players who like slow, folklore-driven Japanese mysteries with a supernatural edge.
