About [Chilla's Art] The Radio Station | 深夜放送

The Radio Station (深夜放送, late-night broadcast) is a horror game by Chilla's Art, the Japanese studio behind The Convenience Store and The Closing Shift, released on Steam in October 2021.

Your brother Masaki hosted a horror-themed show on the local radio station every night and, as far as anyone could tell, was always smiling. Now he is dead, and the police have closed the case as suicide. You do not believe them. You go back to the small station in the hills, with its studio microphone, old computers and empty offices, and drive a battered old truck along dark mountain roads to places he knew.

The makers call it mainly a walking simulator with puzzle-solving, wrapped in their VHS filter that copies the noise and jitter of an old CRT screen over photo-real environments. The driving is unusual for the studio: some players found it the most tense part, others found the controls clumsy. There are three endings and an autosave.

Rice Digital called it the studio's most unsettling game to date and one of its best for atmosphere, a lonely, isolated night more than a run of monsters. Players also note that the English subtitles can move fast.

1. Buy it on Steam and start it on Windows.
2. Explore the radio station in first person and look through your brother's things.
3. Drive the truck along the mountain roads to the places the story sends you.
4. Solve the small puzzles you find and follow the night to one of the three endings.

Tips

• Take the mountain roads slowly; the truck is easy to lose on bends.
• Subtitles can move fast, so keep your eyes on the text during conversations.
• Supporters' extra content can be switched on or off on the title screen.
