What frightens In Kingsport, a snowbound town fallen into ruin just after the First World War, you uncover a family's dark secret among witches, cults and the Outer Gods. You start out barely armed against creatures far stronger than you, scrape together ammunition and items, sneak through dark mines and forests, and feel your sanity slip as voices fill your head and the alien Outworld breaks through.
Content: violence, gore.
Stygian: Outer Gods is a first-person survival horror game with RPG elements, set in the Lovecraftian world of Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones and leading up to its Black Day. You explore the ruined town of Kingsport and the wilds around it, fight or slip past eldritch creatures with scarce weapons and ammunition, and keep hold of your sanity. It is in Early Access on Steam.
About Stygian: Outer Gods
Stygian: Outer Gods is made by Misterial Games and published by Fulqrum Publishing. It entered Early Access on Steam in April 2025. It is set in the same world as the 2019 role-playing game Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones and takes place in the days leading up to that game's Black Day.
You come to Kingsport, a foggy, snowbound settlement that has fallen into ruin after the First World War, to uncover a family's dark secret. The Early Access build covers the village, the courtyard of the Brasko family mansion, a dark forest, the mines, a lighthouse with a strange keeper, the beach and parts of an eldritch otherworld called the Outworld.
It plays as first-person survival horror with role-playing systems. You fight with a knife, sickle and heavy hammer and later a revolver, shotgun and rifle, gather usable items and crafting materials, and build your character by choosing from Sinner's and Seer's skill cards, which can grant abilities such as speaking to the dead or lockpicking. A sanity meter drops as you explore and fills your head with distracting voices. Reviewers found the creatures far stronger than you at first, so early on you sneak around rather than fight.
The fear is cosmic rather than sudden: a dying town under a sickly sky, cults and witches, and things from beyond that you only half understand. Early reviews praised the atmosphere and setting and criticised stiff combat and frame rate drops outdoors, so expect rough edges. It suits players of Call of Cthulhu, The Sinking City and older survival horror who want a slower, stat-driven take on Lovecraft.
How to play Stygian: Outer Gods

- Sneak past creatures you are not ready to fight, and watch your sanity as you explore.

Tips
- Early on you are weak; avoid fights you do not need and come back when you have better weapons or skills.
- Read the books and letters you find. The developers say much of the story and lore is in them.
- Search chests and corners for crafting materials and ammunition before moving to a new area.
- Pick skill cards that suit how you want to play, since they shape your abilities.
- Lower graphics settings if outdoor areas stutter; reviewers reported frame drops there.
Questions
Is Stygian: Outer Gods finished?
No. It is in Early Access on Steam. The developers aim for the full release in 2026, with about twice the content of the first Early Access version and a complete story.
Do I need to play Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones first?
No. Outer Gods is set in the same world but before the events of the earlier game, so it stands on its own.
Is it on consoles?
Not yet. It is sold on Steam for Windows; an Xbox store page exists but the game is not available to buy there.
How long is it?
Dexerto's Early Access review put the build at about six hours; the developers plan 10 or more hours for the full game.
