What frightens Two Arkham police detectives investigate a gruesome ritual murder in a sealed room, and the trail leads through occult offices, a museum of the unusual and dark woods to three witches who escaped the Salem trials, grotesque townsfolk and a many-armed thing that stands in the night.

Content: gore, murder, occult imagery.

The Dark Rites of Arkham is a Lovecraftian point-and-click detective adventure in pixel art. Detectives Jack Foster and Harvey Whitman investigate a ritual murder in a sealed room, and the case leads to cults, Salem's escaped witches and a conspiracy that could end the world.

About The Dark Rites of Arkham

The Dark Rites of Arkham is made by Postmodern Adventures, the one-person studio of José María Meléndez, and published by enComplot. It came out on Steam in February 2026. It follows the same team's Nightmare Frames.

Detective Jack Foster returns to the Arkham police after a traumatic incident and is handed what looks like simple political blackmail. Then comes a gruesome ritual murder in a sealed room that no one could have entered or left unseen. With his new partner Harvey Whitman, an expert on cults, Foster goes into the city's shadows, and the case turns out to be tied to three witches who escaped the Salem trials in 1693.

It plays as a classic point-and-click adventure, which its makers call pulp and click: you talk to people, collect and use items, and solve dialogue and inventory puzzles across more than 90 detailed pixel-art scenes. Lovecraft's characters appear, among them Herbert West, Keziah Mason and Henry Armitage, and the Arkham Museum of the Unusual shows the paintings of Richard Upton Pickman.

Critics enjoyed it as a traditional adventure done well, with low difficulty and a pacing that some found rushed at the end. It suits fans of Lovecraft and of old LucasArts-style adventures who want a detective story with monsters in it.

How to play The Dark Rites of Arkham

  2. Talk to witnesses and suspects; dialogue choices open new leads.
  3. Collect items and use or combine them to solve the investigation's puzzles.
  4. Follow the case from the sealed-room murder into the cults and the witches behind it.
