Dying Light: The Beast is an open-world zombie game from Techland. Kyle Crane, the hero of the first Dying Light, escapes years of experiments and hunts for revenge across Castor Woods, an Alpine valley full of the infected, with first-person parkour, brutal melee and beast powers growing inside him.

About Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast is made by Techland and came out in September 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It began as an expansion for Dying Light 2 and grew into a full game; it is the best-reviewed game in the series so far.

You play Kyle Crane, the hero of the first Dying Light. After years held and experimented on, he escapes into Castor Woods, a rural tourist region in the Western Alps that is now overrun by the infected. He wants revenge on the man responsible, and he is changing: the experiments left him with the DNA of something else, and he can switch into a beast mode that tears through enemies.

As in the earlier games, day and night are two different games. By day you climb, run across rooftops and fight through slow crowds with crafted weapons, guns and vehicles, scavenging as you go. At night the stronger infected come out, faster and deadlier, and you have to run, hide or fight for your life. Reviewers praised the nights as tense as ever, the physical melee and the free movement through the woods, villages and farms of the valley.

It is an action game more than a quiet horror one, but the infected and the nights give it real frights. It suits players who liked the first Dying Light, and anyone who wants a big open zombie world to explore alone or with up to three friends.

How to play Dying Light: The Beast

  1. Explore Castor Woods in first person, climbing, running and jumping across buildings and terrain.
  2. Fight the infected with melee weapons, guns and crafted items, and scavenge for supplies by day.
  3. Watch the clock: when night falls, stronger infected come out, so get to safety, hide or be ready to fight.
  4. Use Crane's beast mode in hard fights to tear through enemies.
  5. Invite up to three friends into your game for online co-op with shared progression.

Tips

  • Keep an eye on the time and plan routes back to safety before dark.
  • Stay on rooftops when crowds fill the streets.
  • Craft and repair weapons when you can; a broken weapon at night is dangerous.
  • Use off-road vehicles to cross open ground and plough through hordes.
