What frightens Thousands of zombies fill a shopping mall from wall to wall, groping and biting at you in every store and corridor, while armed psychopaths stalk the survivors you try to save.

Content: gore, violence, mature themes.

Capcom's remake of the first Dead Rising, rebuilt in the RE Engine. Journalist Frank West is trapped in a mall in quarantined Willamette, Colorado, with rescue 72 hours away. You fight the undead with anything you can pick up, rescue survivors and chase the story behind the outbreak before the clock runs out.

About Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is Capcom's full graphical remake of the first game in its Dead Rising series, released on 18 September 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It keeps the original's play but adds full voice acting, autosaves, reworked controls and an updated interface.

Freelance photojournalist Frank West flies into Willamette, a small Colorado town sealed off by the army, and lands on the roof of its shopping mall just as the dead overrun it. A helicopter will be back in 72 hours. Until then the mall is yours: every shop, food court and park holds something to swing, throw or wear, and survivors hiding in back rooms need to be led to safety.

The horror is the crowd. Hundreds of zombies stand shoulder to shoulder in the plazas, and walking through them means being grabbed and bitten from every side. Between them roam human psychopaths, cruel and unpredictable, who can be worse than the dead. A running clock means you cannot save everyone, and choosing who to leave is part of the pressure.

It is a gory, often comic action game rather than a slow fright, closer to a zombie film than to hiding in the dark. It suits players who want to feel the size of a horde and to improvise their way through it.

How to play Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

  1. Watch the clock: case files and survivor calls only stay open for a set number of in-game hours.
  2. Pick up almost anything in the mall, from benches to guitars, and use it as a weapon.
  3. Find survivors, lead them back to the security room and keep them alive on the way.
  4. Take photos with Frank's camera to earn Prestige Points and level up.
  5. Eat food from the mall's shops to heal, and save your progress when you can.

Tips

  • Learn safe routes through the mall early; the crowded plazas are slow and dangerous to cross.
  • Carry food at all times, since it is your healing.
  • Keep a sturdy weapon for the psychopaths; they hit far harder than zombies.
  • Do not try to rescue every survivor in one run: the clock will not allow it.
