Content: murder, death and grief, flashing lights, a partial jumpscare, a character kissing a corpse.

Myosotis is a short, free psychological horror visual novel by Try_Froggery and team. You play the ghost of a woman killed by her boyfriend, Ethan, and follow him through his days looking for an answer, until you find you are not the only ghost at his side.

About Myosotis

Myosotis was written and led by Kaye Norra (Try_Froggery), with programming and music by Fangsoft, art by Kittyhuggins and Pinklelinkle, and editing by Cydewyn. It came out on itch.io in 2025, where it can be played in the browser or downloaded, and on Steam in March 2026 as Myosotis: My Life Is Not Yours to Take. The makers note that it runs far better downloaded than in the browser, and say no generative AI was used.

You wake as a ghost. Your boyfriend Ethan, a quiet man in a lab coat, has killed you, and in a mix of sorrow, confusion and rage you follow him to his work and through his days, trying to get an answer from your murderer. Then you realise another ghost is following him too. The story runs about 20,000 words with two endings, and a tooltip feature lets you hover over highlighted words to analyse other characters, and yourself.

It is a dark story more than a jump-scare game. The screen floods red, faces break into static, and memories of the murder come back in short, sharp flashes. The makers list death, murder, flashing lights, a partial jumpscare and a character kissing another character's corpse, and on Steam they describe themes of grief and wishing harm on another person. There is a slight romance, which they say is not the focus.

Players on itch.io and Steam praise the writing, art and twist, and many say it made them cry. It suits readers who like short, tragic horror visual novels about the dead and the people who wronged them.

  • Read the tooltips; they hold much of what you learn about the characters.
  • There are flashing red and static effects; lower your brightness if they bother you.
  • Two endings: a second run takes less time than the first.
