What frightens The maker calls it a mini pixel horror game about a girl trapped in her apartment, weathering the apocalypse alone. You keep to a cosy routine of plant watering in a pink studio flat, with sound made for headphones, while what is happening outside comes through in small changes from one day to the next.

Pink is a free, short pixel-art horror game by AugoGames about a girl trapped alone in her studio apartment while the world outside ends. You walk her cosy pink flat, water her houseplants and look at her things, and the calm routine grows more unsettling as the days go by. It takes 15 to 30 minutes.

About Pink

Pink is a small horror game by AugoGames, released free on itch.io for Windows at the end of 2020. It was the first game its maker coded from the ground up, and it is drawn entirely in a few shades of pink, in a tidy top-down pixel style.

You play a young woman in a studio apartment full of plants. The maker's list of features is dry: trendy decor, plant watering, weathering the apocalypse alone in your studio apartment. You walk from the bed to the kitchen to the bathroom, fill something at the sink, and read her thoughts about the things around her. Days pass, and what she says about the same objects changes.

There are no monsters to run from and no jump scares to brace for. The horror is in what is not shown: why she cannot leave, what is going on beyond the walls, and how calm she is about it. Free Game Planet found it a chilled-out but genuinely unsettling take on horror, and players come away arguing about what the ending means. The sound is made for headphones.

It suits players who like quiet, cosy-looking horror that builds unease through routine, in the line of You Will (Not) Remain or To Do List, and anyone wanting something to finish in one short sitting. Spanish and Portuguese versions are offered as separate downloads.

How to play Pink

  3. Move with WASD or the arrow keys and press Space to look at or use things.
  4. Do the day's tasks, such as watering the houseplants.
  5. Read what she says about the flat each day, and keep going until the story ends.
