What frightens Teddy, a masked serial killer under the sway of a Lovecraftian beast, terrorises the town of Oakheart; you play a string of characters through his house, the police station, a ranger station and camp grounds, and every one of them dies horribly at his hands, in gory pixel art.

Content: gore, blood, violence.

Terror At Oakheart is a side-scrolling pixel-art horror game inspired by the slasher films of the 1980s and 1990s. Teddy, a masked serial killer, is terrorising the town of Oakheart, and you play one character after another as the body count rises and something worse than a man in a mask comes to light.

About Terror At Oakheart

Terror At Oakheart is a horror game by the solo developer Tainted Pact, published by Assemble Entertainment and released on Steam in February 2024. It sets out to recreate the experience of watching an 80s horror movie, drawing on the slasher films of the 1980s and 1990s.

The community of Oakheart is being terrorised by Teddy, a masked serial killer. As the body count rises, you find there is more going on than just a man in a mask killing helpless teenagers: Teddy is under the sway of a Lovecraftian beast. You play a cast of characters who square off against him in turn, and the store is plain that all of them will perish horribly. The question is who survives longest, and how the others die.

It is a side-scroller in detailed pixel art, moving through set pieces around the town: Teddy's house, where bodies hang from the basement ceiling under a red symbol, the police station, a ranger station in the rain, camp areas and more. There are puzzles and fights for survival along the way, and plenty of gore.

The first chapter and prologue are free as a demo. It suits players who enjoy pixel-art slashers such as Lakeview Cabin or Search Party, and anyone who liked the same developer's Flesh Made Fear.

  4. Fight or flee when Teddy comes for you, and try to last as long as you can.
