Bloody Hallowfest is a first-person horror game from Cubyte Games, released on Steam for Windows in March 2024 and also sold on itch.io. It is drawn in a low-poly retro style and the maker says it is inspired by the B-movie horror films of the 1990s.

On the night before Halloween, Maya and her friends gather at a summer camp to set up an event for the kids: decorations, a pumpkin hunt and a pinata full of sweets. You help with those preparations first. Then a stranger with a bloodied axe bursts in and the night turns into a massacre.

From there you play Maya trying to escape. You work out a way out step by step, and along the way you learn the secret behind the killer and the reasons for the killings. The screenshots move from the camp's wooden huts and a jack-o'-lantern on a picnic table to dark woods, a red-lit alley and empty city streets. Since an update the game adjusts its difficulty to how often you die.

It suits players who like slasher films and the chunky look of older 3D horror, and want a cheap, linear Halloween story.

How to play Bloody Hallowfest

1. Start at the camp and help set up the Halloween decorations and games.
2. When the killer arrives, run and find somewhere to hide or a way forward.
3. Explore each area for the items and clues that open your escape route.
4. Keep going while uncovering the story behind the killer, until Maya gets out or dies.
