What frightens It is Halloween night 1978 and Michael Myers is back in Haddonfield. Playing as him, you stalk the quiet streets in the mask, slipping through shadows and picking off residents; playing as the townsfolk, you hear him before you see him and try to warn neighbours and get them out against a killer who cannot be stopped.

Content: violence, gore, stalking, jumpscares.

The official game of John Carpenter's Halloween, set on Halloween night 1978. In one-against-four online matches you either play Michael Myers stalking the town of Haddonfield or one of four Heroes trying to warn and rescue its residents, and a single-player story follows the night through Michael's eyes.

About Halloween: The Game

Halloween: The Game is an asymmetric multiplayer horror game from IllFonic, the studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game, published with Gun Interactive and released in September 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is built on the original 1978 film: the quiet suburban town of Haddonfield, Illinois, on Halloween night, and the masked killer Michael Myers coming home.

In the main mode one player takes The Shape. As Michael you pick a target, stalk residents through yards, houses and streets, keep to the shadows and avoid being seen, because the town fights back: frightened residents call the police and patrols grow stronger the more noise there is. Up to four other players are the Heroes of Haddonfield. They arm themselves with household items and weapons, alert neighbours, contact the authorities and try to help families escape, knowing they cannot kill what is hunting them.

The town is meant to feel alive, with people going about their holiday evening, porch lights and decorations. Alongside the matches, a single-player story lets you see the events of the night he came home through Michael's eyes.

Players and critics were split. Many enjoy the atmosphere and the cat-and-mouse of the matches; others point to technical problems. It is the game to reach for if you want to be Michael Myers on Halloween, or to survive him with friends.

How to play Halloween: The Game

  1. Choose a mode: an online match as Michael or as one of the four Heroes, or the single-player story.
  2. As Michael, stalk your targets, keep out of sight and strike before the town can call for help.
  3. As a Hero, find residents, warn them, call the police and lead families to safety.
  4. Use household items and weapons to slow Michael down; you cannot kill him, so get people out.
