What frightens Based on the 1974 film: you wake up as a captive in the Slaughter family's basement in rural Texas and must sneak out past Leatherface, revving his chainsaw, and his cannibal relatives, who listen for every noise and hunt you through their house, barns and fields.

Content: gore, violence, online play required.

An online asymmetric horror game based on the 1974 film. Four victims sneak out of the cannibal Slaughter family's home while three other players, as Leatherface and his relatives, hunt them down. It plays in short, tense matches across PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

About The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was developed by Sumo Digital and published by Gun Interactive, the team behind Friday the 13th: The Game, on 18 August 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S. It is set before the events of Tobe Hooper's 1974 film, with Leatherface, the Cook and the Hitchhiker joined by other members of the family.

Each match is four against three. The victims start tied up in the basement, cut themselves free and search for tools such as bone scraps, lock picks and fuses to open the exits, crawling through holes and dodging traps. The family players patrol the house and grounds, listen for noise and set up traps, and Leatherface can tear down barricades with his chainsaw. Grandpa sits in the house, and feeding him blood makes his scream reveal moving victims.

The fear is in being hunted by other people who know the maps: a creaking floorboard or a chainsaw revving in the next room, a chase across a field at dusk, a hiding place that might not be enough. Each victim has different strengths, such as stealth, toughness or speed, and families win by catching and killing them before they escape.

In May 2025 the publisher said the game was complete and would get no more updates, but it stays on sale and online. Matches can take a while to find at quiet hours. It suits fans of the film and of Dead by Daylight style hunts.

  5. As the family, patrol the grounds, listen for noise, feed Grandpa blood and catch the victims before they get out.

Tips

  • Move crouched: running makes noise the family can hear.
  • Watch for Grandpa's scream, and stand still while it reveals movers.
  • As a victim, stay apart from teammates who are being chased.
  • Learn the maps' exits; knowing where to go matters more than speed.
