What frightens In dark, ruined maps seen from above, four survivors creep between generators they must repair to open the way out, while a masked butcher, a cultist, a ghost that walks through walls or a werewolf, played by another person, stalks them. Horrorfield is a free online horror game for phones where four players try to escape and one hunts them. Survivors repair generators and craft gear to get out of a dark asylum or camp; the killer, a butcher, cultist, ghost or werewolf, tries to catch and sacrifice them first.

Horrorfield Multiplayer Horror is a free-to-play asymmetric horror game for iPhone, iPad and Android, made by Skytec Games and on the App Store since April 2019. The store pages now list CHEELY APPS (CHILI APPS), TOO as the seller. Its own description invites the comparison with slasher films, and players will recognise the four-against-one formula of Dead by Daylight, built here for phones and seen from above.

Each match puts four survivors against one psycho, all real players online. Survivors choose from seven classes, each with its own skill: the basketball player runs faster, the doctor heals, the engineer fixes generators and crafts quicker, the thief is stealthier, and the mercenary, scientist and police officer have their own roles. Together they search the map, repair generators and escape before they are caught.

The other side is the hunter. You can play one of four killers: a butcher who breaks the generators, a cultist escaped from an asylum, a ghost that passes through walls, or a werewolf that turns into a wolf. Between matches both sides level up, unlock skills and craft items such as first aid kits, flashlights and holy water at the workshop.

The fear comes from being the one hunted by a person rather than a script: a heartbeat, a shape at the edge of the light, and the dash for the exit. It is free with ads and in-app purchases, and it suits players who want Dead by Daylight style matches on a phone.

How to play Horrorfield Multiplayer Horror

Install Horrorfield free from the App Store or Google Play and start a match as a survivor or as the psycho.
As a survivor, pick a class, search the map for generators and repair them while staying out of the killer's sight.
Work with your team: heal each other, distract the killer and open the exit once the generators run.
As the psycho, pick a killer, track the survivors, break their progress and catch them before they escape.
Level up, unlock skills and craft better items between matches.

Tips

Learn each survivor class; an engineer on generators and a doctor for healing make escapes much easier.
Keep an eye on the heartbeat and the other players' icons to know when the killer is near.
Craft first aid kits and energy drinks before matches; they can decide a chase.
Try the killer side too; knowing how it hunts teaches you where to hide.
