Backrooms: Escape Together is a co-op horror game for one to six players set in the Backrooms, the internet legend of endless yellow office rooms. You work through procedurally generated levels with their own puzzles, items and entities, using proximity voice chat to stay together. Each entity hunts differently, and learning how to survive them is the game.

Backrooms: Escape Together is a co-op horror game by Triiodide Studios, released into Early Access on Steam on 18 October 2022 and still in Early Access there. It came to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 18 June 2026, with cross-play between platforms.

You play alone or with up to five others, friends or strangers, dressed in yellow hazmat suits. The game starts in the yellow halls of Level 0, the room from the original Backrooms story, and every level after it has its own setting, mechanics and threats: tiled pool rooms, an abandoned shop, a party hall of bouncy castles and car parks among them. The store page lists eleven levels, and more are added during Early Access. Layouts, item spawns and entity encounters change on every attempt, so runs do not repeat.

Each level is a small puzzle to solve. You search for items, carry what you need in a small inventory, watch your sanity and stamina, and work out how to open the way down. Entities from Backrooms lore roam the levels, each with its own behaviour and way of hunting, and part of the game is learning what they react to and how to get past them.

The graphics aim for a lifelike look, with spatial audio, and the proximity voice chat means you hear teammates only when they are near, so a scream from down the hall tells you something has found them. The store page leans into the funny side of watching friends die. It suits groups who liked Escape the Backrooms or Lethal Company and want a Backrooms game built around puzzles and level-by-level progress.
