What frightens Your team of technicians arrives at abandoned Antarctic facilities of the genetics firm ANGENEX and finds mutated creatures stalking the halls, some chasing relentlessly, others hunting by sound and darkness or waiting in ambush; you have tools, not guns, so you hide in lockers, keep quiet and repair your way to an escape that may not have room for everyone.

Content: gore, frightening scenes, trypophobia triggers.

CRYO is a first-person co-op survival horror game for one to four players by Valko Game Studios. Sent to restore abandoned Antarctic facilities, your team searches for parts and repairs systems while mutated creatures hunt you, with only tools, lockers and quiet to keep you alive.

About CRYO

CRYO is an Early Access game from Valko Game Studios, released on Steam in October 2025; the same studio made Labyrinthine. You and up to three others play technicians for ANGENEX, a genetics corporation with research sites across Antarctica, sent to find out why contact was lost.

Each deployment has primary objectives: restore communications, repair machinery, find missing equipment and solve puzzles, all while searching cupboards, drawers and locked rooms for what you need. Objectives, item spots, the creature you face and the escape routes change between deployments. When the work is done you still have to get out, and some escapes are faster, some safer and some have room for only two.

The store promises creatures that hunt using the world around them, reacting to movement, sound and light. Some are aggressive, some stalk from the shadows, and a tactic that worked last time may get you killed on the next one. You get cameras, motion detectors, music players to distract and other gear, but no guns, so you crouch, hide in lockers and break line of sight. The cold and failing equipment add their own danger. The maker warns of gore, frightening scenes and assets that may affect people with trypophobia.

Screenshots show cramped storage rooms lit by glowsticks, filthy washrooms, a dark corridor smeared with blood and a frozen path between lamps outside. Players compare it to Monstrum and Alien: Isolation in co-op, praise its atmosphere and optimisation, and some find the maps large and hard to navigate. It suits groups who want long, tense missions rather than quick rounds.

How to play CRYO

  1. Choose a difficulty and deploy alone or with up to three teammates.
  2. Search the facility's cupboards, drawers and rooms for equipment and parts.
  3. Complete the primary objectives: restore power and communications, repair systems and solve puzzles.
  4. Learn how the current creature hunts and avoid it by moving quietly, hiding in lockers and breaking line of sight.
  5. Use cameras, motion detectors and distractions to track and steer the creature.
  6. Get an escape route working and get out, knowing some have room for only part of the team.

Tips

  • Watch the creature before committing to a plan; the store says different monsters perceive the world differently.
  • Plan trips outside before you leave shelter, because the cold and failing equipment can kill as surely as the creature.
  • Talk constantly and warn each other when something is coming; splitting up is faster but leaves you alone.
