What frightens A farming life sim turned wrong: you grow teeth and eyeballs, keep otherworldly livestock, stop tentacles spreading through your crops, hear ever stranger news reports and meet creatures from the woods, while horror manga art shows the townsfolk and monsters in unsettling detail. On harder settings you can die in your sleep.

Content: body horror imagery, death.

Welcome to Elderfield is a cozy horror RPG and farming life sim. You move to a town where the abnormal is normal, tend a farm of strange crops and livestock, befriend or marry odd townsfolk, investigate daily mysteries and fight Lovecraftian creatures in turn-based battles.

About Welcome to Elderfield

Welcome to Elderfield was made by Chris Cote and published by Kwalee, released on Steam in September 2026. It takes the shape of a farming life sim, with crops, animals, fishing, mining, cooking, home decorating and romance, and fills it with horror.

You settle in Elderfield, a town that people rarely leave. Your fields grow corn and pumpkins but also teeth and eyeballs, tentacles push up through the soil, and things from the woods wander onto the farm at night. The townsfolk are strange, and the local news grows odder by the day. The art, hand-drawn in the style of horror manga, makes even friendly faces a little wrong, and a dark lo-fi soundtrack by Dated plays underneath.

There is a real game of survival under the cozy surface. You choose your difficulty: a laid-back cozy mode, or harder settings where turn-based combat against ancient horrors asks you to use gathered resources, buffs and equipment well, and where death is part of the loop.

It suits players who like Stardew Valley-style games but want unease and cosmic dread in theirs, and horror fans looking for something slower and stranger than a chase.

How to play Welcome to Elderfield

  1. Create your character and arrive at your new home in Elderfield.
  2. Clear and plant your farm, and keep tentacles from spreading through it.
  3. Raise otherworldly livestock, fish, mine and forage for resources.
  4. Talk to the townsfolk, take on their mysteries and build friendships or a romance.
  5. Prepare buffs and equipment before turn-based fights with the creatures outside town.
  6. Choose cozy difficulty for a relaxed life, or a harder one for real danger.

Tips

  • Pick cozy mode first if you want to learn the farm before the fights get serious.
  • Gather and cook before venturing into danger; resources decide fights.
  • Check the local news each day; it hints at the town's mysteries.
  • Keep an eye on your fields for unwanted tentacle growth.
