Corpse Party traps a group of high school students in Heavenly Host Elementary, a school from another dimension where children were murdered, and lets them die there in grim, detailed ways. The games here share its cursed schools, its Japanese and Korean ghost stories, or its pixel-art RPG Maker roots.
If you want more Heavenly Host, Book of Shadows revisits the school in chapters set before, during and after the first game, and Blood Drive concludes the arc. Both are by the same team.
For other cursed schools, Misao is the closest in spirit: a school pulled into an otherworld of spirits and deathtraps after a bullied girl vanished, drawn in 2D pixel art. The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters is a Korean 2D survival horror game in a shadow version of a high school, where you hide from a killer, and White Day is the Korean first-person classic about being locked in a school at night with a janitor and ghosts. Banned Memories: Yamanashi is free and takes you back to a closed Japanese academy with fixed camera angles. Detention traps two students in a haunted high school in 1960s Taiwan, among creatures of local folklore, and Chilla's Art's Hanako turns the old toilet-ghost legend on the children who used it to curse a classmate. Fear the Spotlight is gentler: a séance in a school after dark and a spotlight-headed monster to sneak past.
For the ghost stories, the Spirit Hunter games turn Japanese urban legends into investigations where the wrong choice kills you; Death Mark II is set at a cursed academy. Spirit Hunter: NG is the companion story, a deadly game with a cursed spirit across the same city. PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, from Square Enix, turns old Tokyo ghost stories into curses held by strangers who hunt one another, and Yomawari: Night Alone sends a little girl with a flashlight through a town of Japanese spirits. Higurashi When They Cry is a free, long horror mystery about a village where someone dies every June.
For the RPG Maker side, Aooni, Mad Father and The Witch's House are RPG Maker classics of the same tradition, each a small house or mansion of puzzles, chases and deaths.
Start with Misao for the same school and spirits, or with Spirit Hunter: Death Mark if you liked Corpse Party's story more than its exploring.
