My Neighbor Enide is a short light-horror RPG Maker game by arcadekitten. Allie lives by the beach with her dad, across the street from her favourite neighbour, Enide, and a cute everyday story turns to blood and worse. It takes 40 minutes to an hour and has a normal and a true ending.

About My Neighbor Enide

My Neighbor Enide is a free horror game by arcadekitten, the maker of It's Not Me, It's My Basement, made with RPG Maker for Windows, macOS and Linux, with Spanish and Russian translations.

Allie has not had the easiest life, but she makes the best of it. She lives down by the beach, she has a dad who loves her, and she lives across the street from the best neighbour on the block, Enide. Her days are skipping rope in the garden, chatting with neighbours and asking her dad what is for dinner, all in bright pixel art and big, friendly character portraits.

The maker calls it a short, light horror-themed RPG that plays more like a visual novel: most of it is conversation, with light exploration of the neighbourhood and houses. The horror arrives through that cosy surface. The content warnings list blood, death, gore and cannibalism, and at key moments Allie must hide, and where she hides decides which of the two endings you reach.

It takes 40 minutes to an hour. It suits players who like cute-turned-dark horror stories and short RPG Maker games with a twist, such as the same maker's It's Not Me, It's My Basement.

How to play My Neighbor Enide

Download the game for Windows, macOS or Linux from its itch.io page and extract it.
Walk Allie around her home and the neighbourhood with the keyboard.
Talk to her dad, Enide and the neighbours, and choose what to say.
When you are told to hide, pick your hiding place carefully: it decides the ending.
Play again to find the other of the two endings.

Tips

For the true ending, the maker's hint is to hide under the bed the second time you are prompted to hide.
On a Mac, open the nwjs file inside Game.app/Contents/MacOS rather than the Game app, as the maker explains, or menus may not close.
Read the content warnings first: the cute art hides gore and cannibalism.
