What frightens A girl wakes alone in a dim room she does not know, lit only by the match she holds. Things in it are not what they should be, and a huge pale fish face with human eyes watches out of the dark as she searches for a way out.

Content: disturbing imagery.

One Room is a short, free point-and-click horror game by kristina s. You play a girl who wakes up in an unknown room and must work out how to leave it, while the room turns stranger the closer you look. It plays in the browser in one sitting.

About One Room

One Room is a small point-and-click game by kristina s., published on itch.io as sugarcgames and made in Unity. Its premise is as plain as its title: you play a girl who wakes up in a room she has never seen, and you have to find your way out.

You play it entirely with the mouse, clicking around the room to look at things, pick them up and use them. The puzzles hang on the room's furniture and objects, among them a clock, a television and a small cabinet, and part of the game is working out which of them matter.

The fear here is quiet and strange rather than loud. The art is painted by hand in dusty browns and greens, the girl holds a single burning match against the dark, and a vast pale fish face with human eyes hangs in the gloom behind her. Players compare its mood to Fran Bow, and in the comments call it creepy and unnatural, and cute, funny and scary at once.

It is free and runs in the browser on itch.io. It suits players who like short surreal escape puzzles such as Bars of Black and White or Alice is Dead, and who want a strange little story they can finish in a single sitting.

How to play One Room

  1. Open the game's itch.io page and press Run game; it loads in the browser.
  2. Click around the room to look at each object and the walls and furniture.
  3. Pick up what you can and click it on the things around the room to use it.
  4. Work out how the room's objects fit together until you find the way out.

Tips

  • The pointer's click point sits in the middle of the hand cursor rather than at the fingertip, so aim a little up and to the left.
  • Play with sound on: players single out the music, and it carries much of the mood.
