What frightens You are trapped within the hollow walls of the Deep, where shadows glare at every movement and time passes without warning, until your demise is nigh. Its faded rooms of peeling wallpaper are hung with portraits that watch you, and a warning that many brave hearts are asleep in the deep.

Content: unsettling imagery.

Asleep in the Deep is a short, free point-and-click horror game by Harlequin Diver, made in Decker for the Decker Fantasy Camp 2024. Trapped in a house of faded rooms and watching portraits, you solve puzzles and explore to find your way out, toward one of two endings.

About Asleep in the Deep

Asleep in the Deep was made by Harlequin Diver with Decker, a tool for making HyperCard-style interactive decks, for the Decker Fantasy Camp 2024. It plays in the browser on itch.io and can also be downloaded as an HTML file or a Decker deck. It is name your own price.

It opens with a warning. Beware the shadows who glare at every movement. You are trapped within hollow walls, getting more lost and numb in the Deep, and time passes without warning until your demise is near. It closes on the line: many brave hearts are asleep in the deep, so beware.

You look at each room in first person, in faded, dithered colours: a hall of doors and portraits, a desk with an old computer, a fireplace, a mantelpiece with framed pictures and a butterfly. You click to look closer, read what you find and solve puzzles to open the way through the rooms. Some of what you find is not pleasant at all.

It is short, with two endings. It suits players who like quiet, eerie point-and-click puzzle rooms in the spirit of old adventure games.
