What frightens You are shut in a spooky old house and have to collect evidence of the paranormal activity in it, recording voices and photographing what should not be there, while diary pages reveal the house's story; the only way out is an occult ceremony with five red candles.

Content: creepy imagery.

Ghostscape is a free point-and-click ghost-hunting game by Psionic, released on Newgrounds in 2008 and still playable in the browser. You collect evidence of paranormal activity in an old house, read the diary pages that tell its story, and perform an occult ceremony with five red candles to escape.

About Ghostscape

Ghostscape is a Flash game made by the Newgrounds artist Psionic (psionic3d) and released in October 2008, where it took Daily 3rd Place. He built it alone, coding in SwishMAX, modelling in Cinema 4D and ZBrush and making the music and sound in FL Studio. Newgrounds still runs it in the browser, for free.

In the maker's words it is a scary point-and-click adventure: you have to collect evidence of paranormal activity in a spooky old house, find diary pages that reveal the backstory, and perform an occult ceremony with five red candles to escape. Lists of the scariest Flash games single out the way it plays at real paranormal investigation, with voice recordings and ghost photography.

The fear is quiet and investigative: dark rendered rooms, proof of the ghosts to gather, and a story that comes together page by page. A sequel, Ghostscape 2 - The Cabin, followed in 2009.

It suits players who like ghost-hunting and escape-room puzzles more than chases.

How to play Ghostscape

  1. Open Ghostscape on Newgrounds and press play; it runs in the browser.
  2. Click to move between the rooms of the house and look closer at things.
  3. Collect evidence of the ghosts with the tools the game gives you.
  4. Find the diary pages to learn what happened in the house.
  5. Gather five red candles and perform the ceremony to escape.

Tips

  • Search every room twice; pages and candles hide in corners.
  • Read the diary pages in order, they point to the ceremony.
  • Play with sound on: recordings are part of the evidence.
