What frightens Having survived two serial killers, you are still trapped, and now a figure called the Observer has plans for you. The facility you search is stranger and grosser than before, a futuristic place of strange technology and data files with CG blood and mature themes, though reviewers note it leans less on scares than the earlier games.

Content: blood and gore, mature themes.

Killer Escape 3 is a free point-and-click escape game by Psionic, released on Newgrounds in 2014 and still playable in the browser. After escaping two serial killers you try to get out for good and learn who you are, while a figure called the Observer has other plans, as the series turns toward science-fiction horror.

About Killer Escape 3

Killer Escape 3 is the third of Psionic's (Psionic3D) Flash escape games, released on Newgrounds in June 2014. It was front-paged and took Daily 3rd Place, and Newgrounds still runs it in the browser for free. Its title menu also links to the first two games.

The maker sets it up in a line: after escaping from two serial killers, it is time to get out and find out who you are, but the Observer has other plans for you. He describes a point-and-click escape adventure with mature themes and CG blood.

You search the rooms in first person, collect and use items, read data files and work through puzzles. JayIsGames found a mix of straightforward use-this-on-that puzzles and more abstract ones, with clues hidden throughout and some clunky interactions. Codes are generated at random, so they differ from the video walkthrough the maker links from the inventory.

This is where the series changes. JayIsGames wrote that things get weirder and grosser, but that the game places much less weight on the scares the series was known for, and praised its animated cutscenes and polish. Some Newgrounds players missed the serial killers; others enjoyed seeing the story widen. It suits players who finished the first two and want to see where the story goes, more than those after pure scares.

How to play Killer Escape 3

  1. Open Killer Escape 3 on Newgrounds and press play; it runs in the browser through Newgrounds' Flash player.
  2. Press Start on the title menu, or play the first two games from the same menu if you have not yet.
  3. Click around each scene to look closer at things and pick them up.
  4. Open the inventory, choose an item and click where you want to use it.
  5. Read the data files for clues and work through the facility's puzzles to find the way out.

Tips

  • Codes are random each play, so do not copy them from a walkthrough.
  • If you get really stuck, the maker's video walkthrough is linked from the inventory.
  • Some data files use a hard-to-read font; zoom in your browser if you need to.
  • Play the first two games first; the story follows on from them.
