The official phone version of Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning, a horror parody of 1990s educational games. You walk a crude 3D school collecting seven notebooks and answering their maths questions, and when you get one wrong, Baldi starts chasing you. Collect them all and then find an exit to win.

About Baldi's Basics Classic

Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning began in 2018 as a Meta Game Jam entry by Micah McGonigal of Basically Games, and it is still free on itch.io for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android. Baldi's Basics Classic is the official port of that original game to iPhone and Android, with touch screen controls, released on the App Store in December 2019.

It pretends to be a cheerful learning game, inspired by the creepy, badly made edutainment software of the 1990s. You walk the brick halls of a school looking for seven notebooks. Each one gives you maths problems on a pad, and Baldi, the bald teacher in a green shirt, waits for your answers.

The horror is that the game is not what it seems. Anger him with a wrong answer and Baldi comes after you with his ruler, getting faster with every notebook you collect. His friends around the school slow you down: the principal sends you to detention, a girl makes you skip rope, a bully blocks the hall. Items you pick up, from a quarter to the principal's keys, help you get away.

Story mode asks you to collect all seven notebooks and escape; Endless mode counts how many you can get before you are caught. It suits players who like a tense chase with a silly face, and it led to the expanded Baldi's Basics Plus.

How to play Baldi's Basics Classic

  1. Choose Story mode, or Endless mode to see how many notebooks you can collect.
  2. Walk the school halls and enter classrooms to find the notebooks.
  3. Answer the maths problems in each notebook.
  4. When Baldi is after you, keep moving, use doors and items to slow him, and watch out for his friends.
  5. After all seven notebooks, find an exit to escape.

Tips

  • Learn the layout of the school: knowing where the notebooks and exits are is most of the game.
  • Pick up items as you go and save them for when Baldi is close.
  • Each wrong answer makes Baldi angrier, so take your time on the problems.
  • In Endless mode, solving notebooks correctly slows Baldi down again.
  • Adjust the touch controls in the options menu before you start.
