Kitchened was made by koro.games and IRoRoI in one week for Scream Jam 2025, where it placed 7th overall out of 931 entries. It is a free, name-your-own-price Windows download on itch.io.

You wake up on your own balcony. The door is locked, and the city lights are too bright to see past the glass. A voice tells you that you deserve death, but that you will be given a chance to escape. The whole game takes place in one apartment, drawn in stark greys with flashes of red, seen through your own pale hands.

Every familiar object has been turned into a test. A combination dial is fixed to the fridge, a jigsaw waits on the table next to a plate, and messages are written in reflections. Solving each one gives back a piece of a shared past, told through an inner monologue, and moves you closer to the person who locked you in. The makers promise subtle moral ambiguity: who is the victim, and who is the monster.

It suits players who like escape rooms with a story underneath, and short psychological horror that unsettles more than it chases.

How to play Kitchened

1. Download kitchened.zip from itch.io, extract it and run the game on Windows.
2. Look around the balcony and apartment in first person and pick up what you can.
3. Open drawers and cabinets carefully; some hide puzzles, some hide traps.
4. Solve each puzzle, such as the combination lock and the jigsaw, to unlock the next part of the apartment.
5. Listen to the inner monologue and piece together the past to find your way out.

Tips

• Check reflective surfaces; some messages are written in them.
• Write down numbers you find; the combination dial needs them.
• Take your time with each room; it is a single location full of details.
