What frightens When a witch named Mary saves Hazel's life, Hazel cannot tell whether to be hopeful or afraid, and however eager and loving Mary is, a creeping unease never leaves her; the makers call it a toxic yuri horror visual novel about a curse ("Don't be silly, dear. Curses aren't real."), warn that it gets into dark material, and list content warnings inside the game.

Content: dark themes; the makers list content warnings inside the gam, toxic relationship.

Porcelain Heart is a short toxic yuri horror visual novel by cinnamew and a small team, free to play in the browser on itch.io. Hazel owes her life to Mary, a witch who is eager, devoted and loving, yet Hazel cannot shake her unease or the talk of a curse. About 16,000 words, with three main endings and a secret one.

About Porcelain Heart

Porcelain Heart was directed by cinnamew and made by a small team for the Toxic Yuri VN Jam 2 in 2026: PocketNii on character art, CGs and Live2D animation, Destringe and yein on design and backgrounds, BallisticBear703 and cinnamew on programming, LAVAGXRL on sound and Astra on writing. It is built in Unity, plays in the browser on itch.io and comes as a Windows or Mac download, name your own price. The makers say no generative AI was used. cinnamew also co-made an earlier cute-looking horror visual novel, made in 72 hours for a jam.

Hazel's life has been saved by a witch, Mary. Mary is devoted to her, warm and eager to please. Hazel does not know whether she should be grateful or afraid, and the unease she feels around Mary never quite goes away. And when curses come up, the answer is gentle: don't be silly, dear, curses aren't real.

You read most of it, with animated character sprites over painted scenes of a forest, a clearing and a village, and meet a few others along the way, among them a priest in a monocle. A small gathering minigame breaks up the reading. Your choices lead to one of three main endings, and seeing them opens a secret one. It runs to more than 16,000 words.

The art is pink, frilly and pretty, and that is the trap: the makers describe it as a dark and doomed toxic yuri horror story that gets into nitty-gritty dark material, and they ask players to check the content warnings inside the game. The fear is not in jump scares but in a relationship you cannot read. It suits players who like sweetness that turns sour, as in the same maker's earlier jam game, or yandere visual novels like It gets so lonely here.

  4. In the forest clearing minigame, gather what you find into the basket.

Tips

  • Avoid the skip button on a first play: the makers note it can cause unintended effects, though it will not softlock you.
  • The endings branch from the last decision, so replays to see the others are quick to set up.
  • The downloads are about 300 MB; the browser version needs no install but takes a moment to load.
