On PC: one of the PC horror games.

What frightens Sent in 1897 to destroy the source of an unnatural fog around Berelai Manor, you face servants driven to violent madness by a glimpse of cosmic insignificance, who attack on sight; your sanity is tested as the truth comes out in the all-consuming fog.

Content: blood and gore, violence, sexual themes (console rating).

Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity is a hard 2D action horror game inspired by Resident Evil, Dark Souls and Eternal Darkness. In an alternate 1897 Britannia you are contracted to destroy the source of an unnatural fog around Berelai Manor, whose servants have gone mad and attack on sight.

About Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity

Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity is the first game in the Skautfold series by Steve Gal, published by Pugware on Steam in May 2016 and brought to PlayStation, Xbox and Switch by Red Art Games in 2022. Its maker names Resident Evil 1, Dark Souls and Eternal Darkness as its inspirations.

It is set in an alternate history: the Angelic Empire of Britannia in 1897. Your contract orders you to eliminate the source of an unnatural fog that has swallowed Berelai Manor. A strange and repelling madness has taken hold of the servants roaming its halls, and they attack on sight, because their madness comes from a deeper understanding of cosmic insignificance.

You explore the estate and its grounds from a top-down, isometric view in detailed pixel art, through autumn graveyards, an observatory full of clockwork, snow-dusted salons and barricaded halls. To fight back you carry an Iaito cane and a Waltham A9 hand cannon, and you heal with Vitae concoctions. Reviewers compare its hard fights, and the way you must go back for the currency you drop when you die, to Dark Souls.

It is difficult and dark, a gothic horror more about dread and hard fights than about hiding. It suits players of Bloodborne and Lamentum who want a pixel-art take on cosmic horror in a cursed manor.
