What frightens In VR you creep through a dark research base with a motion tracker chirping in your hand, while Xenomorphs crawl through the vents and walls and can drop on you from any side.

Content: gore, violent deaths, jumpscares, loud sounds.

Alien: Rogue Incursion is a single-player action-horror game set in the Alien universe, made first for VR. As ex-Colonial Marine Zula Hendricks you break into an infested research facility on the planet Purdan, with a motion tracker in one hand and a pulse rifle in the other.

About Alien: Rogue Incursion

Alien: Rogue Incursion is made by Survios. It came out for PC VR on Steam and for PlayStation VR2 in December 2024, and for Meta Quest 3 and 3S in February 2025. In September 2025 a non-VR Evolved Edition followed on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is Part One of a two-part story.

You play Zula Hendricks, a former Colonial Marine out to expose the secret experiments of the Weyland-Yutani company. With a synthetic companion, Davis 01, talking you through it, she lands on Purdan, an uncharted planet, and gets into the Gemini Exoplanet Solutions research facility. It does not take long to find out what has been breeding inside.

In VR the game is built on doing things with your hands. You hold up the motion tracker and watch blips move toward you, swap to the pulse rifle, reload it yourself and pull tools and items from your body. The facility is dark and narrow, Xenomorphs travel through vents and ceilings, and their arrival often comes as a scrape in the walls or a sudden blip right behind you. Saving happens at set stations, which reviewers found punishing at times.

The fear is in the waiting and the noise as much as in the fights: a tracker that will not stop chirping, a shadow across a door, a dead body by the wall. Reviewers praised the tension and the motion tracker, and some found the later fights repetitive. It suits VR players who love the Alien films and want to stand inside one. Those without a headset can play the Evolved Edition, though most reviews say VR is the stronger way to play.

How to play Alien: Rogue Incursion

  1. Choose your version: the VR game on Steam VR, PlayStation VR2 or Meta Quest 3, or the Evolved Edition on a screen.
  2. Explore the facility, following Davis 01's guidance and the data on your tablet.
  3. Hold up the motion tracker to see movement around you, and point it where you think the aliens will come from.
  4. Fight with the pulse rifle and other weapons, reloading by hand in VR.
  5. Save at the save stations whenever you reach one.

Tips

  • Keep the tracker out in quiet areas; it is directional, so point it at doors and vents.
  • Save at every station you pass; losing progress to a death can cost a lot of time.
  • Reload during lulls rather than in the middle of an attack.
  • Turn on the comfort settings if smooth movement in VR makes you uneasy.

Questions

The original is VR only. The Evolved Edition, released in September 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, plays without a headset.
