What frightens In VR you search a dying, randomly built spaceship for a way home while creatures sniff you out in the dark; ammunition is scarce, the corridors are overgrown with something organic, and you never know what is behind the next door.
Content: gore, disturbing scenes, jumpscares.
Cosmodread is a VR survival horror roguelike from the makers of Dreadhalls. Stranded on a dying spaceship, you search its randomly built rooms for resources, craft weapons and tools, and try to get the ship working to return to Earth while creatures hunt you.
About Cosmodread
Cosmodread is the second VR horror game from White Door Games, the studio behind Dreadhalls, released in March 2021 for PC VR on Steam and for Meta Quest, and later for PlayStation VR2.
You wake aboard a spaceship that is falling apart. Each run lays out the rooms, corridors, items and hazards differently, so you cannot memorise it. With your own hands you open doors, drawers and lockers, gather basic materials, and craft weapons and equipment at fabricators: a crossbow, bolts, traps and more.
The horror is the dark and what lives in it. Something organic has grown over parts of the ship, and creatures move through it. Ammunition is scarce, so you crouch behind cover, set traps, or throw an object across a room to draw a creature away. Death ends the run.
It suits VR players who liked Dreadhalls and want more to do, with crafting and some fighting, and fans of the dread of Alien and Dead Space.
How to play Cosmodread
- Wake aboard the ship and search the first rooms for supplies.
- Open drawers and lockers by hand and collect materials.
- Craft a crossbow, bolts and gear at the ship's fabricators.
- Avoid or fight creatures: hide behind cover, set traps or throw objects to distract them.
- Find what you need to bring the ship's systems back and head for Earth. If you die, start a new run.
