What frightens Holly Stonehouse follows her family's trail to the Dark Falls Asylum and finds someone has been there before her. At night the asylum comes alive, and a masked figure that has followed her since her childhood home is now a real danger, while each note and photograph reveals more about her mother and a sister who should not exist.

Content: violence and blood (xbox rating), suicide (as a story theme), mental illness themes.

The second part of the True Fear: Forsaken Souls trilogy by Goblinz. Holly Stonehouse searches the Dark Falls Asylum and its grounds for the truth about her mother and a lost sister, solving puzzles and collecting notes while a masked presence closes in. A first-person point-and-click horror mystery, on PC, consoles and phones.

About True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 2

True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 2 is a first-person point-and-click horror adventure by Goblinz, published by The Digital Lounge. It came out on PC in November 2018 and later reached PlayStation 4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iPhone and Android. It continues straight from Part 1, so the first game is the place to start.

Holly Stonehouse has followed the clues from her family's old house to the Dark Falls Asylum, where her sister Dahlia was last seen. Was her mother mad, or did the other sister really exist? Did her mother take her own life, and what is the thing Holly saw that has followed her ever since? The asylum holds the answers, and it is not empty at night.

You move from scene to scene, searching for items, reading notes and photographs, and solving more than 40 puzzles. Many objects are part of long chains: a tool found in one building opens something in another. A map lets you travel quickly across the larger grounds, Holly's diary keeps the clues in order, and the hidden-object scenes can be swapped for a different puzzle if you prefer.

The fear is slow and steady: decaying wards and offices, family photographs that do not add up, a masked face in the dark and a story about madness and loss. It is not built around chases or fights, so it suits players who want a long, atmospheric horror mystery to solve at their own pace.

A free demo is on Steam and Xbox, and the phone versions let you play the opening before buying the rest.

Tips

  • Read every note and photograph; the diary keeps them, and they often hold codes and hints.
  • When stuck, check the map for areas with things still to do before using a hint.
  • Items often belong to another part of the grounds, so revisit old scenes after picking up something new.
  • Look for the hidden character figurines as you go; they fill in what happened.
