CHUXIE (除邪) is a first-person bodycam horror shooter made in Unreal Engine 5 by one developer, LCGaming. As a paranormal investigator you fight terrifying creatures with limited ammunition and solve riddles to destroy the evil eggs that would birth stronger spirits.

CHUXIE, written 除邪 on its store page, is a first-person horror shooter by LCGaming, released on Steam in July 2024. It was made independently by one developer in Unreal Engine 5, and its maker puts realistic visuals and spatial sound at its centre.

You are a paranormal investigator whose job is to look into supernatural events and eliminate demons. During one investigation you discover that evil creatures are incubating evil eggs, from which more powerful evil spirits will be born and cause disaster. You must find and destroy them.

The game is seen through a body camera, with free aiming and aiming down the sights. You move through dark, silent places, from a bloodied hospital ward and old wooden houses to fields at night, while terrifying creatures come at you and ammunition is limited. You search the map for clues and ammunition, solve riddles, find gold to buy upgrades and face special evil spirits that are harder to bring down. Players on Steam mention plenty of jump scares, and that its odder monsters can tip from frightening into strange.

It suits players who want a short, cheap first-person horror shooter with a bodycam look and a lot of things jumping out of the dark.

Tips

Count your shots; ammunition is limited, so do not empty a magazine at every shadow.
Search side rooms for ammunition and gold before pushing on.
Expect jump scares at doors and corners and keep your weapon up.
