What frightens Two lovers break the rules of the game they live in and run away one night, through glitching, neon dreamcore spaces, a cat god in a field of binary code and a dark road where a neon light caresses frostbitten hands. Its maker warns of disturbing imagery and content.

Content: disturbing imagery, flashing glitch effects.

Enupishi is a short dreamcore horror game by vmu_ about a forbidden love inside a game and the night two lovers try to escape it. You walk in first person through glitching neon and weirdcore spaces full of unsettling, dreamlike imagery. It plays free in the browser and was made in a week.

About Enupishi

Enupishi is by the itch.io creator vmu_ (Visual Memory Unit), made in Unity over one week after the idea had sat in their head for a month. Its story is told in English and Japanese, and it is free to play in the browser or to download for Windows, macOS and Linux.

It was a forbidden love, something against the rules of the game. One night, the two decided to escape. The question the game asks is how far they could go. You follow them in first person, walking and talking your way through the places they pass.

Those places are the point. The screen glitches and smears into neon pinks and blues; a cat god stands in a field of scrolling binary; Japanese system messages flash over scenes; a quiet night road under a single lamp is where a neon light 'caresses the frostbites' on a hand. It is dreamcore and weirdcore made playable, and its maker warns that it may contain disturbing imagery and content. Players describe a strong sense of unreality, cute characters and a bizarre art style, and a few hidden secrets.

It is short, finished in one sitting. It suits players who like surreal, internet-core horror and odd little dream games such as I Am Not What Remains or Midnight Snack.
