What frightens A research train speeds through an Antarctic blizzard, its cars overrun by monsters. You search the dark, procedurally arranged cars for supplies and keep the train's parts running, because if it stops the cold and the creatures outside close in, and storms bring waves of enemies down on you.
Content: blood, dismemberment of monsters, horror themes.
Fright Train is a third-person action survival horror roguelike from WildArts Games. As paranormal agent Doug Barker you board a research train crossing Antarctica, fight the monsters in its cars and keep it moving, because a stopped train means freezing or being taken by whatever waits in the storm.
About Fright Train
Fright Train came out on Steam in September 2026, made by WildArts Games and published by Black Lantern Collective and Gamersky Games. You play Doug Barker, a paranormal special agent, sent after a distress signal from the L.R.S. Great White, a locomotive research station owned by the secretive SHARK corporation. The cast are anthropomorphic animals and the story is played as a B-movie, with full voice acting in English.
Each level is a procedurally generated stretch of train. You scavenge cars for supplies and credits, spend credits to open new cars and rooms, buy items from vending machines and upgrade your weapons. Terminals let you check and repair the train's parts, and you have to keep them running: if the train stops, you freeze, and the creatures outside come for you. Storms send waves of enemies, and at the end you head for the extraction point on top of the locomotive before the train reconfigures itself.
The inventory is physical. Large and medium items hang on your character's body, and where you put them changes how fast you can reach them: a magazine on the chest goes in quicker than one on the lower back. Enemies help or hinder one another, some wear armour, and most have weak points worth learning.
The horror is in the setting and the monsters: dark, cramped cars lit in red and orange, frost on everything, and frozen, rotting creatures with glowing eyes coming out of the dark while the blizzard howls outside. It is action horror more than slow dread, closer to fighting through a Resident Evil mercenaries mode than hiding from one stalker. It suits players who like third-person shooting, resource juggling and runs that change each time.
How to play Fright Train
- Pick a difficulty; the lowest one is meant for players who want the story.
- Search each train car for supplies and credits, and kick open crates.
- Use terminals to check the train's condition and repair its parts so it keeps moving.
- Spend credits on new cars and rooms, vending machine items and weapon upgrades.
- Prepare before a storm, then hold out against the waves of enemies it brings.
- Reach the extraction point on top of the locomotive before the train reconfigures itself.

Tips
- Store magazines on the chest for the fastest reloads; items on the lower back take longer to reach.
- Learn which enemies wear armour and where their weak points are before spending ammunition on them.
- Do not let train repairs slide while you explore; a stopped train turns the cold against you.
- Spend credits between storms so you are not shopping when a wave starts.
