What frightens Europe is overrun by the Zeds, failed biotech clones: shrieking Sirens, cloaked Stalkers, chainsaw-armed Scrakes and raging Fleshpounds pour out of vents and doorways in waves, and the gore system sprays blood and limbs over every wall as your team fights to survive until the boss arrives.

Content: extreme gore, violence, loud sounds.

A first-person co-op shooter where up to six players hold out against waves of the Zeds, grotesque clones loose across a collapsing Europe. Between waves you spend money on weapons and armour, and the last wave brings a boss. It is fast, loud and very gory.

About Killing Floor 2

Killing Floor 2 was made by Tripwire Interactive and came out of early access on 18 November 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4, followed by Xbox One in 2017. It is set a month after the first Killing Floor, when an experiment by the Horzine Biotech company has let its specimen clones loose across Europe and governments and armies have fallen.

You are one of a band of mercenaries and survivors sent into outbreak zones such as city streets, labs, farms and a burning Paris. Each match is a series of waves: the Zeds come from every side, and you fight with rifles, shotguns, flamethrowers, blades and stranger weapons, then run to the trader pod between waves to buy ammunition and better guns with the money you earned. Perks, from Commando to Field Medic, give each player a role.

The horror is in the creatures and the gore. The Zeds are twisted mixes of flesh and machinery, some cloaked, some screaming, some charging in rage when hurt, and the game shows every wound. Slow-motion Zed Time kicks in on big kills. On higher difficulties a team that splits up or runs dry of ammunition can be overrun quickly.

It can be played alone against the waves, but it is made for groups. It suits players who want a co-op horde shooter with a horror theme, like Left 4 Dead with more monsters and more blood.

Tips

  • Stick with your team; a lone player is quickly surrounded.
  • Focus fire on Scrakes and Fleshpounds, and do not wake a Fleshpound by hitting it lightly.
  • Play Field Medic or Support early on to help a new team.
  • Use Zed Time to land headshots and reload.

Questions

Can you play Killing Floor 2 alone?

Yes. Solo play runs the same waves offline against the Zeds, though it is built for up to six players online.

Is Killing Floor 2 cross-platform?

Steam and the Epic Games Store version play together on PC.

Are the Zeds zombies?

No. They are clones and mutants made by the Horzine Biotech company, but they swarm like a zombie horde.

Is Killing Floor 2 scary?

It is more frantic and gory than frightening, though screaming Sirens and charging Fleshpounds in dark maps can be tense.
