Space Beast Terror Fright is a very hard roguelike first-person shooter by nornware. You play marines who search dark, procedurally built spacecraft for DataCores while lethal Space Beasts close in, then set the reactor to overload and run for the airlock. One to four players can play, in split-screen or online.

About Space Beast Terror Fright

Space Beast Terror Fright, or S.B.T.F., is an arcade-style roguelike first-person shooter by nornware, with permanent death. You play marines sent into dark, claustrophobic spacecraft infested with Space Beasts to pull out critical data and upgrades.

Each spacecraft is a procedurally generated maze, different every time. You hunt for DataCores to download while the Beasts, which are extremely lethal, come at you. You start with an automatic rifle or a shotgun and a basic tracker that shows nearby motion and the distance to the next DataCore. DataCores can hold upgrades: better ammunition, a better tracker and other help. Doors matter: sealing sections behind your team keeps you from being overrun from several sides, but also cuts off your escape. Sentry robots around the ship can be switched on for extra firepower, though they can still hit you.

When all the data is out, you disable the reactor coolants and have 90 seconds to get back to the airlock before the ship blows. Music is arranged procedurally and synced to the action, so the tracker pings and the score rise as the Beasts get close.

It can be played alone or by up to four players, on one screen in split-screen or over a network, with keyboard and mouse or Xbox 360 controllers. It suits groups who want a hard co-op shooter where the tension comes from the tracker and the dark as much as from the fighting.

How to play Space Beast Terror Fright

Buy it on Steam for Windows and start a mission alone or with up to three others.
Pick a rifle or a shotgun and enter the spacecraft through the airlock.
Follow the tracker to each DataCore and download it, fighting off the Beasts.
Close doors behind you and activate sentries to hold the Beasts back.
After the last DataCore, disable the reactor coolants and reach the airlock within 90 seconds.

Tips

Seal doors behind you so the Beasts can only come from one direction, but leave yourself a way to run.
Switch on sentry robots as you pass them; they add a lot of firepower when you are overwhelmed.
Watch the motion tracker constantly; it is how you know where the Beasts are coming from.
