What frightens After the first part, Gretel and her brother are lost deep in the woods and trying to find their way home, or somewhere else. The forest, painted in soft watercolours, is full of monsters and characters from other Grimm tales, and as in the first game most wrong moves end in an animated, often gruesome death.

Content: animated deaths, violence.

Gretel and Hansel Part 2 is the free 2010 sequel to makopudding's watercolour horror game, still playable on Newgrounds. Gretel and her brother journey deep into the woods to find their way home, through a forest of Grimm monsters where most mistakes end in death.

About Gretel and Hansel Part 2

Gretel and Hansel Part 2 was released on Newgrounds in October 2010 by makopudding and his team, a year after the first part, and won Daily Feature and Weekly Users' Choice. The maker calls it much longer and more involved than the first game, with new music by Jess Cron and theme music by Mike Rudolph. Newgrounds still runs it in the browser, for free.

The story goes on in the forest after the events of the first game: the children journey deep into the woods to find their way home, or somewhere else. You walk Gretel through the hand-painted scenes with the arrow or WASD keys, click on what you find and use items from your inventory, and the game saves on its own so you can come back later.

As before, the storybook look is a trap. The woods hold creatures and characters from other Brothers Grimm stories, and most wrong moves end in an animated death, some absurd and some cruel. Working out what not to do is half the game.

Play the first part first. Both are being remade, with a new Part 3, by makopudding's studio Spider House for Steam. It suits players who like dark fairy tales and point-and-click puzzles where failing is part of the story.
