What frightens Woken in the night by someone rattling your door, you find a stranger in the hallway of your building asking for help and to be let in; their face and words are subtly wrong, and the tension is in deciding what they are while they keep pressing at the door, with flashing lights and unsettling sound.

Content: flashing lights.

Late Night Visit is a free micro horror visual novel made for the O2A2 VN Jam 2024, played in the browser on itch.io or on Android. You wake in the middle of the night to rattling at your door, and the stranger outside asking to be let in is not quite right.

About Late Night Visit

Late Night Visit was made by a small team for the O2A2 VN Jam 2024, a micro visual novel jam with strict asset limits and a 1000-word cap: Kotzwinkle built it in Godot, haunthill wrote it, kiwi-rot drew it and Joshua Jael composed the music. It runs in the browser on its itch.io page, tested by its makers on several devices, and there is also an Android build to download. The team has kept it updated, with maintenance releases into 2026, and a small sequel is in the works.

You wake in the middle of the night to the sound of rattling at your door. Through it you see someone in the dim hallway of your building, asking for help and asking you to open up. Something about the stranger is off, and the short story is built around that feeling: a face that does not sit right, words that are almost what a person would say, and the door between you.

There is nothing to do but read and listen; the grainy, cold-lit art, the VCR-style font, a real door-knob rattle and the score carry the dread. It takes a few minutes. The makers warn of flashing lights.

It suits players who liked deciding who to let in at the door in That's Not My Neighbor or No, I'm not a Human and want the same fear in a few minutes of reading.
