Doppelpartment is a pixel-art horror game made with RPG Maker MZ. You manage an apartment block for a week after a soldier warns you that some tenants have been replaced by doppelgangers, and you must find and report them.

About Doppelpartment

Doppelpartment is a horror game by A. V. Dossow, the itch.io maker of Mausoleosis and Julia Was Alone, made with RPG Maker MZ. You are the building manager of an apartment complex, an old man whose tasks are simple: look after the building, collect rent, make sure the tenants are fine.

Then one night there is a soldier outside, in a gas mask, with disturbing news: some of your tenants have been replaced by doppelgangers. Your mission is to identify them and report them to him. The tenants' faces fill the screen when they open their doors, in grainy, CRT-tinted pixel portraits, and you choose what to say: I just wanted to check on you, I like your beard, do you ever blink, you're a bit creepy. A rent board keeps track of who has paid and who is due.

The maker promises a week full of madness, body horror and knocks on your door. Doppelgangers are random from one play to the next and mutations progress as the days pass, so you cannot simply learn the answers. There are many dialogues and options, possible romance with some tenants, a toilet system, and 4 endings and 3 final ranks depending on how you do.

It is free with an optional payment, in the browser and for Windows and macOS. The maker warns that the game has no website of its own: any site claiming to be its official page is fake. It suits players who liked That's Not My Neighbor and want the same suspicion from inside the building.

Tips

Doppelgangers are random each time, so do not rely on what you learned in an earlier run.
Check on tenants more than once: mutations progress as the days pass.
Keep an eye on the rent board to see who you still need to visit.
