About Mausoleosis

Mausoleosis is a short horror game by A. V. Dossow and Kazu, made with RPG Maker for the 20th RPG Maker Horror Jam and released in November 2023. It plays free in the browser on itch.io, with downloads for Windows and Mac and a Spanish version.

David receives a very concerning letter from his mother. She is lonely and scared and asks him to come and pick her up. The problem is that she has been dead for twenty years. He could have ignored the letter, but he did not, and he goes to the mausoleum where she was buried to find out what is going on.

You walk David through the mausoleum's halls in top-down pixel art, among candles, rows of bones and rats, examining what you find and solving puzzles the makers call weird. Choices along the way matter, and there are four endings. Kazu drew the art and A. V. Dossow wrote the soundtrack.

The fear is quiet rather than loud: a dead parent's voice, a place of the dead, and the question of what is waiting there. It suits players who like story-led RPG Maker horror and a mystery to puzzle over.

How to play Mausoleosis

1. Start the game in the browser on this page.
2. Walk David through the mausoleum with the arrow keys.
3. Examine objects and read what you find to work out the puzzles.
4. Make choices carefully; they lead to one of four endings.

Tips

• Examine everything; the puzzles depend on details in the rooms.
• Save before big choices so you can see other endings.
• Play with sound on for the soundtrack and atmosphere.
