What frightens As the new servant of the Vanderboom house, your chores, from straightening portraits to doing the laundry, slide into assisting with the family's alchemical experiments and cleaning up what they leave behind, in Rusty Lake's quiet, surreal and macabre style.

Content: disturbing imagery, occult themes.

Servant of the Lake is a point-and-click puzzle adventure in the Rusty Lake series. As the new servant of the Vanderboom house, you solve surreal puzzles to finish your daily tasks, look after the family and their visitors, and help with their alchemical ambitions, decades before the events of Rusty Lake: Roots.

About Servant of the Lake

Servant of the Lake is a 2026 game by Rusty Lake, the Dutch studio behind the Cube Escape series, Rusty Lake: Roots, The Past Within and Underground Blossom. It is a classic single-player point-and-click adventure, set in the Vanderboom house in the era of Aldous and William Vanderboom, decades before Roots.

Visitors are arriving, and you are meant to start your housekeeping at once. The tasks begin simply, straightening the family portraits and doing the laundry, and each one is a puzzle built into a hand-drawn room. Soon you are assisting in experiments, welcoming strange guests and cleaning up the aftermath, and the family's alchemical ambitions come into view.

Rusty Lake games frighten in their own way. There are no chases or jumpscares to speak of; instead, a calm, old-fashioned world is slowly bent out of shape by the occult, by bodies and by the uncanny, with a haunting soundtrack by Victor Butzelaar underneath. Its story ties into the rest of the series and rewards players who know it, but it can be played on its own.

It suits puzzle fans who like a dark, surreal edge, and players of the free Cube Escape games who want the next step.
