What frightens Pilot Travis Walker records his star log: something boarded the salvage ship USS Starcross on its last run, and the chief engineer and the captain are dead. Alone with the thing, he searches dark, bloodied decks and floats outside the hull in a spacesuit, gathering what he needs to deal with the stowaway.

Content: blood, dead bodies.

A free, short sci-fi horror point-and-click adventure with voice acting. The sole surviving pilot of a salvage ship must solve puzzles and use items to deal with the alien that killed his crew, in about 15 to 30 minutes.

About Stowaway

Stowaway is a short point-and-click adventure by George Broussard, made in Unity in two weeks for Adventure Jam 2022, where it placed sixth overall. Travis Baldree voices the lead. It plays in the browser or as a free download for Windows, Mac and Linux.

It opens on a star log. Pilot Travis Walker of the USS Starcross reports that he seems to be the last crew member left: some unspeakable thing came aboard on their last salvage run, and the chief engineer and the captain are dead. The ship is drawn in moody pixel art, purple server rooms and dark cargo holds, a reactor room with blood on the floor and pipes that look less like pipes the longer you look.

You play it like a classic adventure game. Left click to walk and use things, right click to look, pull items from an inventory at the top of the screen and use them on the world. Travis comments on everything in a dry drawl, and at one point heads out of an airlock in a spacesuit to float along the hull.

There is no save or load, but the game is short and you cannot die, so it is about the mood and the puzzles rather than survival. It suits anyone who likes Alien-style setups and old-school adventure games.

How to play Stowaway

  1. Left click to walk around the ship or use something.
  2. Right click on things to look at them and hear Travis describe them.
  3. Move the mouse to the top of the screen to open the inventory, and left click an item to equip it.
  4. Click an equipped item on an object or character to use it there, and solve the ship's puzzles.
