What frightens Kidnapped by cultists while investigating disappearances in your rural hometown, you are trapped deep in the Black Woods with only their purple spellbook. Its rituals can summon an eldritch goddess, but one wrong step means madness or a gruesome death at the hands of her Thousand, all drawn as a cheerful 90s anime dating sim.
Content: insanity, violence, light swearing, innuendo, sexual themes, death scenes.
Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is a Lovecraftian horror-comedy visual novel by Akabaka, published by DreadXP, and the sequel to Sucker for Love: First Date. Kidnapped by cultists in the Black Woods, you use their spellbook to summon Rhok'zan, the Black Goat of the Woods, and perform rituals that can win her heart or end in a horrible death. Its four chapters have multiple endings set by your choices.
About Sucker for Love: Date to Die For
Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is a visual novel by Joseph "Akabaka" Hunter, published by DreadXP and released on Steam for Windows on 23 April 2024. It follows Sucker for Love: First Date with a new setting, a new eldritch love interest and the same joke at its core: a dating sim where the dates are Lovecraftian gods.
While investigating mysterious disappearances in your rural hometown of Sacramen-Cho, you are kidnapped yourself and dragged to the dark heart of the labyrinthine Black Woods. The rest of the town seems to be under the spell of Rhok'zan's all-consuming love, but you feel different. Your only hope is the cultists' strange purple spellbook, full of madmen's scrawls, pictures of abominations and the instructions for summoning The Black Goat of the Woods.
Its four chapters centre on surviving dangerous rituals. You look around hand-drawn 360-degree scenes, gather the right objects, and follow the spellbook to the letter. Get it wrong and you meet a gruesome end; get it right and you move closer to escape, or to Rhok'zan. Choices along the way decide which of its multiple endings you reach.
The art copies the look of old-school anime and classic dating sims, and the tone is comedy, with insanity, violence and sexual themes the store warns about. It suits players who liked the first game, cosmic horror fans with a sense of humour, and anyone curious what dating a Great Old One would look like.
