About The Brookhaven Experiment

The Brookhaven Experiment is a horror wave shooter for VR headsets by Phosphor Games. It began as a demo for the HTC Vive in early 2016, came out in full on Steam in July 2016 and on PlayStation VR that October, and was ported to Meta Quest headsets in October 2025. It needs a headset and motion controllers on every platform; there is no flat-screen mode.

The world is collapsing and you are the last line of defence. You stand in dark places with a gun in one hand and a flashlight in the other while waves of creatures come at you, and you have to light them up and shoot them before they reach you. Across the campaign you try to work out what caused the beginning of the end of the world.

The store describes a powerful arsenal you can upgrade, limited resources and brutal enemies. The Quest edition lists a ten-level campaign that the makers say takes a new player more than three hours, an endless survival mode across six maps including a Halloween mansion, seven guns, throwables and several kinds of ammunition. Gore, including blood, decapitations and severed limbs, can be turned on or off.

Its controls are simple, so it is often used to show friends and family what VR horror feels like. It suits players who want to fight back rather than hide, and anyone looking for a quick, loud scare to pass around.

How to play The Brookhaven Experiment

Buy it on Steam for a SteamVR headset, on the Meta Quest store for Quest 2, 3, 3S or Pro, or on the PlayStation Store for PS VR with two Move controllers.
Hold the gun in one hand and the flashlight in the other; light up what is coming and shoot it.
Pick weapon and item upgrades as you work through the campaign levels.
Try the endless survival mode to see how long you can last.
