Death Frame is a first-person psychological horror adventure by EpiXR Games. As the estranged child of a serial killer, you explore the mansion you inherited and are pulled into its paintings, each a surreal dreamscape built from your father's memories, his madness and his victims.

About Death Frame

Death Frame is a psychological horror game by the German studio EpiXR Games, released in October 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. You play the estranged child of a notorious serial killer, coming back after years of silence to the mansion you have inherited. As you walk its rotting halls your character talks through what brought them here: disgust, grief and morbid curiosity.

The mansion is full of paintings that seem to watch you. Some tell a story in symbols: a scared child, a cruel father. The large ones pull you inside. The first takes you into an underwater labyrinth lit blue-green, a broken memory of your father's childhood, where glowing shards hold his thoughts and you hear him tell you how he nearly drowned at his own father's hands. The deeper you go, the more monstrous the place becomes, with eyes blinking from the walls and teeth growing out of them.

Back in the house, keys open new doors, shortcuts and secret passages, and three diaries tell the rest: a cold list of victims, the last words of a captive and the thoughts of a mind sinking into madness. There are six of these abstract worlds, and each has its own twist on play: some lean on platforming, some on environmental puzzles, others are on-rails sequences that need quick decisions.

Its makers warn of grotesque and gory scenes, each level built around a different fear or kind of death, with bones, severed limbs, skulls and blood. Players on Steam rate it highly. It suits fans of Layers of Fear and other games where a house and its art open onto someone's broken mind.

How to play Death Frame

  1. Explore the mansion in first person and look at the paintings along its walls.
  2. Approach the large paintings to be pulled into the memories inside them.
  3. In each memory world, walk, jump and fall through the dreamscape and touch the glowing shards to hear the killer's thoughts.
  4. Solve the environmental puzzle of each world and find its exit.
  5. Use the keys you bring back to open new parts of the mansion, and read the diaries hidden there.

Tips

  • Pick up every glowing shard: they carry the story you came for.
  • Look around the painting after you return; a new key may be lying nearby.
  • Some worlds are on-rails and ask for fast choices, so stay alert even when you are not steering.
