Content: jumpscares, gore, blood, corpses, swearing.

Fear the Moon is a short first-person survival horror game about a group of old friends camping in a Midwest forest said to belong to a cryptid called the Wolfman. When night falls the reunion turns bloody, and Jane has to find a way out and save whoever she can before the full moon is over.

About Fear the Moon

Fear the Moon is an indie horror game by Jonny's Games, released on Steam for Windows in May 2024. It tells a three-chapter story with four characters, and its maker puts an average run at between an hour and a quarter and two hours.

It opens around a campfire: old friends meet again for a weekend in a forest that local legend says is the territory of the Wolfman. As night falls and the full moon rises, the reunion turns into a fight to survive. You play mostly as Jane, moving in first person through the woods, a wooden cabin, an outhouse, a farmhouse and darker places, with a flashlight in hand.

The store page lists the parts of survival horror it uses: a real threat that can end your run, puzzles that open the way forward, inventory management and manual saves. The art is realistic, the story is told in cinematic scenes, and the scares come from the monster's appearances, its jumpscares and the gory remains it leaves behind.

It suits players who like creature features and campfire stories, short horror with a clear monster rather than abstract dread, and games like Until Dawn or Bigfoot played alone in one evening.

How to play Fear the Moon

  1. Explore the campsite and the woods in first person with the keyboard and mouse.
  2. Turn on the flashlight with F when the light goes; most of the game is played at night.
  3. Pick up items and use them from your inventory to open locked places and solve the puzzles in your way.
  4. Save by hand when the game lets you, before going somewhere dangerous.
  5. Keep away from the Wolfman when he appears and look for the way out of each chapter.

Tips

  • Save whenever you can: the game uses a manual save system and the monster can end your run.
  • Search cabins and buildings carefully; puzzle items are easy to miss in the dark.
  • Play with headphones: much of the tension comes from what you hear in the trees.
  • It is short, so it fits a single evening.
