What frightens A group of travellers must cross Sinnlos, a cursed lake of black water, on a maze of bridges, while the Nixi, twisted creatures that delight in drowning people, lurk beneath the surface. Their guide warns that a group this large cannot make it across whole, and you have to decide, sometimes in a split second, who is saved and who is left behind.

Content: death, monsters, drowning.

Lake of Voices is a free, fully voiced horror visual novel by GB Patch Games. The guard Kikka and her companions must cross Sinnlos, a cursed lake where drowning-hungry creatures lurk, knowing that someone will be lost on the way. You decide who to protect and who to leave behind, with timed choices and multiple endings.

About Lake of Voices

Lake of Voices is a horror visual novel by GB Patch Games, released free on Steam for Windows and Mac in 2018. It runs to about 88,000 words, is fully voiced in English, and has a piano soundtrack and some silly unlockable bonus events.

You play Kikka the Steadfast, a village guard who hides a sensitive nature behind stoicism. She and fellow guard Bemelle are sent to help an allied town under siege by raiders, and the way there leads to the shore of Sinnlos, a cursed lake of black water. It is home to the Nixi, twisted creatures who take joy in drowning humans, and only a nameless guide can lead anyone across its maze of bridges.

Other travellers need to cross that same night. The guide agrees to lead them all, but warns that a group this large will not make it across whole: someone will be lost along the way. None of them volunteers to stay behind, and so the crossing begins.

The game is about choices. Some are timed and ask for a split-second action, or for the decision to do nothing; others are about who you protect and who you leave in the dark. Anyone can be saved, but not everyone can be, and the endings change with what you do. You can also grow close to anyone in the party. It suits players who like dark, character-driven visual novels where every decision costs something.

How to play Lake of Voices

  3. Answer timed choices quickly, or choose to stand by.
  4. Decide who to protect as the crossing grows more dangerous.
  5. Replay to see the other endings and their variations.
