Content: gore, violence, some nudity.

Metro 2033 Redux is the 2014 remaster of 4A Games' first-person shooter, based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel. As Artyom you travel through the Moscow metro and the poisoned surface twenty years after a nuclear war, rationing ammunition and gas mask filters against mutants and human enemies.

About Metro 2033 Redux

Metro 2033 Redux is a first-person shooter by 4A Games, published by Deep Silver in 2014 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and later on Switch. It rebuilds the original Metro 2033 of 2010 in the engine of its sequel, Metro: Last Light, with that game's improvements to AI, controls and weapon handling. It is based on the novel series by Dmitry Glukhovsky.

In 2013 an apocalyptic event left the surface a poisonous wasteland, and the survivors took refuge in the Moscow underground. In 2033 their stations live as besieged cities, at war with each other and with the mutant horrors outside. You are Artyom, raised underground, and an event sends you on a desperate mission to the heart of the metro to warn the rest of mankind of a terrible threat.

The horror is in the world. Tunnels are dark and narrow, mutants come out of them in packs, and on the surface you live by the filters in your gas mask. Old military-grade ammunition is both your best bullets and the money of the metro, so every shot costs something. You carry hand-made weapons and can fight, sneak or find another way, and the store says your actions will decide the fate of mankind.

The store offers two play styles: Spartan, which plays more as a shooter, and Survival, a slow-burn survival horror with fewer resources. Ranger Mode removes the HUD and makes combat deadlier. It suits players who want a story-driven shooter where the setting is as frightening as the fights, and anyone coming to the series before Metro: Last Light.

How to play Metro 2033 Redux

  1. Buy it on Steam, GOG, PlayStation, Xbox or the Nintendo eShop.
  2. Choose a play style: Spartan for more action, or Survival for slow-burn survival horror.
  3. Travel through the metro as Artyom, talking to people in the stations.
  4. Scavenge ammunition, filters and supplies, and trade at station merchants.
  5. Fight or sneak past mutants and human enemies in the tunnels.
  6. Wear your gas mask on the surface and change filters before they run out.

Tips

  • Keep military-grade ammunition for trading and emergencies; it is the metro's currency.
  • Watch your wristwatch timer on the surface and carry spare filters.
  • Wipe your gas mask when it gets dirty or cracked so you can see.
  • Try Ranger Mode on a second play if you want it harder and with no HUD.
