About Metro: Last Light Redux

Metro: Last Light Redux is a first-person shooter by 4A Games, published by Deep Silver in 2014 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and later on Switch. It is the remastered version of Metro: Last Light from 2013, the sequel to Metro 2033, and is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels. Redux includes all the DLC released for the original, which the store says adds about ten hours of single-player content.

It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of Moscow the remnants of mankind still live in the metro, besieged by mutants in the catacombs and in the skies above. Instead of standing together, the station-cities are fighting over a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6, and a civil war is coming. You play Artyom again, burdened by guilt but driven by hope.

The store describes Last Light as more action-oriented than its prequel, a mix of tactical combat and stealth. You carry hand-made weapons, put on your gas mask on the surface, where each filter lasts only minutes, and check your watch and ammunition on the fly. Old military-grade ammunition is also the metro's money. Mutants attack in the tunnels and the ruins, and the surface itself is hostile.

For players who preferred the slower, survival-horror pace of Metro 2033, Redux adds two play styles: Spartan keeps the action, and Survival turns the campaign into a fraught, slow-burn fight for survival. Ranger Mode removes the HUD and makes combat deadlier. How Artyom acts along the way decides which of the two endings you reach. Play Metro 2033 Redux first for the story.

How to play Metro: Last Light Redux

  1. Buy it on Steam, GOG, PlayStation, Xbox or the Nintendo eShop.
  2. Choose a play style: Spartan for action, or Survival for a slower fight with fewer resources.
  3. Follow Artyom through the stations, tunnels and surface of the metro.
  4. Scavenge ammunition and filters, and buy weapons and upgrades from station merchants.
  5. Fight mutants and human enemies, or sneak past them where you can.
  6. Wear your gas mask on the surface and check your watch to see how long the filter has left.

Tips

  • Spend dirty, hand-made ammunition in fights and keep military-grade rounds for buying and emergencies.
  • Check your wristwatch often on the surface; a filter lasts only minutes.
  • Listen to people in the stations and spare enemies who surrender if you want the better ending.
  • Play Metro 2033 Redux first: Last Light continues its story directly.

Questions

Do I need to play Metro 2033 first?

It helps. Last Light continues Artyom's story directly after Metro 2033.
