What frightens On an old computer you find an abandoned capture-the-flag shooter and log into its empty server; the map is quiet, the flags still wave, and the longer you stay the more it seems someone else is there.

Content: jumpscares, disturbing imagery.

No Players Online is a short horror game about an old computer and the abandoned online shooter you find on it. You explore a faux-90s desktop, download games from an obscure forum, dig through a stranger's files and go back into an empty capture-the-flag map to find out what it was really for.

About No Players Online

No Players Online began in 2019 as a free, roughly twenty-minute game by Adam Pype, released on itch.io, that grew into an alternate reality game its players solved together. This full version, made by Beeswax Games and published by Black Lantern Collective, came out on Steam in November 2025 as a spiritual successor built from the ground up.

You find an abandoned first-person shooter on an old computer and decide to play it. Its servers are empty; the capture-the-flag map sits under a dark sky with its red flag waving and no one to play against. But the game is only a remnant, and it is distracting you from its real purpose.

The new version surrounds that map with a whole faux-90s desktop, complete with Minesweeper. You download games from an obscure forum and get to know its community, read files left by the computer's previous owner, and use a program called Soul Transfer to fuse games together, with corruption as a side effect. Clues in all of these lead to the developer of the old shooter and the conspiracy around him.

The fear is quiet and digital: an empty server, a flag waving for nobody, and the sense that the game is watching you back. Players rate it highly, and some found its secrets too well hidden. It suits fans of found-computer horror and old online games who enjoy piecing a mystery together.

How to play No Players Online

  1. Start up the old computer and explore its desktop, files and programs.
  2. Launch the abandoned shooter and explore its empty capture-the-flag map.
  3. Download games from the forum and read the community's posts for clues.
  4. Use Soul Transfer to combine games and see what changes, and what breaks.
  5. Follow the clues in files and games to uncover the old developer's story.
